This part of our farm is about you and it is the most meaningful part of our work as farmers.  We get excited about helping people make good food choices because the positive impacts of these choices extend far beyond the dinner table.  When you eat fresh sustainably grown food, you improve your own health and the health of your community.  Sometimes, we just need a little encouragement to head down the right path.  Our memberships offer just that with regular deliveries of fresh produce and accompanying recipes to support you all summer long.

How do memberships work?

Members commit to the farm at the start of the year and receive 15 weekly deliveries of fresh local produce during the summer.  This partnership benefits the farm and its members.  As a member, you benefit from receiving super fresh, organically grown food that is conveniently delivered to your door (for those within our delivery area), and as farmers, we benefit from being able to minimize waste and maximize efficiency thanks to the secured market for the food we grow.  Memberships become available to the public in January and are sold on a first come first served basis.  Read on to learn more and don't hesitate to contact us if you have any membership questions.

Home Delivery and Pick-Up Membership Privileges

Memberships come with different perks depending on the location of your home in Saskatoon.  If you live within our delivery area, we will deliver your produce right to your home at no extra cost.  Our delivery area is currently limited to the core areas of Nutana, Buena Vista, Riversdale, and King George.  Here is a larger MAP of the delivery area shown below.  We cannot offer home delivery to every area of the city because we do all of our farm work by bike and this commitment comes with some limits.  If you live outside of our delivery area, you will need to come to our home in Riversdale to pick up your produce once a week, but in exchange for that extra effort, you can enjoy some additional customization.  We setup a mini market at our home for our pick-up members which makes it possible to trade items in your share and/or purchase additional items to better match the unique preferences of your household.

What happens if I need to miss a week?

You have two options. If you notify us at least 1 week in advance, we will cancel your box for the week you are away and add one more week to the end of your season.  All members can take 1 of these vacation weeks per season if they choose.  A fun alternative to this is to share your box with a friend or neighbour.  We can even deliver to a different household for you as long as they are within our delivery area.  This is a great way to spread a little joy in the world!

How much food will I receive?

We plan carefully for the growing season accounting for crop life cycles, planting densities, and expected yields, but we do not know what nature has in store for us each year.  Therefore, we cannot garrantee the exact quantity you will receive of each crop.  What we can promise is that we will honour the initial investment each member has made in our farm by returning to them that same value in produce.  That means if you invest in a Standard Share for $525, you are guarranteed $525 of farm produce.  As insurance, we plant a little extra of each crop so in the case that one crop does not perform as expected, we can increase the amount we deliver of another better performing crop.  We recognize that this model of agriculture requires some flexibility for all of us, but with this type of cooperation, we can create a more sustainable food system that results in stronger relationships, a vibrant local economy, and healthier people.

What will an average box look like?

The box contents will vary throughout the season, but we aim to keep the quantity of food consistent so you are not overwhelmed with too much food one week and lacking food another week.   The quantities in one Standard Share should be easily managed by one or two adults who eat vegetables regularly and we will support you with weekly recipes that incorporate multiple items from the box.  Below are some examples of the Standard Share box contents from 2017 which have a total value of $35 per week.  We define the value of each item in the box in our member newsletter each week during the harvest season.

Do I get my own box?

You sure do!  When you join our farm, we will build a custom wood box that will be yours for the season.  If you are a delivery member, this box will live on your front porch or other sheltered location on your property, ready to receive each week's delivery.  If you are a pick up member, we will clearly label your box with your name and keep it at our home pick up station so that we can keep refilling it with your weekly share of the harvest.

When are shares delivered / picked up?

Most member produce is distributed on Wednesday evenings between 5:00pm and 8:00pm.  (The exception to this is the Common Ground group membership which is distributed on Fridays.  See Common Ground description above for details.)  We make all of our home deliveries during these hours and notify members by text message when deliveries have been completed.  We also make sure that the pick up station is stocked by 5:00pm for those members who are picking up their produce.  These hours may shift a little earlier as the days shorten and temperatures drop in late September and October.

Distribution Days

Member produce is distributed on Wednesday evenings between 5:00pm and 8:00pm or Saturday mornings between 9:00am and 12:00pm.  Members are notified by text message each week as an extra reminder when the pick up station is ready.  When signing up, members may choose whether they would like to pick up their produce on Wednesdays or Saturdays, and this pick up day must remain the same throughout the season.

Optional Vacation Week

The vacation week option gives you the chance to take a week off from your delivery or pick up at any point in the season as long as you inform us of this at least 1 week in advance.  If you choose to take advantage of this option, we will add one additional delivery / pick-up to the end of your schedule so you still receive the same value of food for the season.

Membership Deadline and Payment

Memberships will be available until March 31, 2018 or until they are sold out.  The number of memberships we can offer is determined by the amount of work we are able to do and the amount of land we have available.  Therefore, there are only a limited number available and they will be sold on a first come first served basis.  Memberships are open to the public in January.  New members can claim a spot of their own as soon as they sign up and pay for their membership in full.  Returning members have the first chance to snatch up 2018 memberships beginning in December and can hold their spot with a $50 non-refundable deposit with the remainder of their payment due by March 31, 2018.  If the remaining balance is not paid by this date, that spot will be made available to a new member.   All membership payments are non-refundable.

"This was our first summer of membership and we loved the variety of fresh, local vegetables! Since there are only two people in our household we opted for the Starter Kit to ensure we didn't get too much produce. This was the perfect size for us to keep up. Most of the produce was very easy to pack into my lunch and take to work. The ability to switch out certain produce during pick up also allowed extra flexibility to ensure everything was eaten. The variety of produce also re-introduced me to some vegetables that I remember being on my Grandma's table (think parsnips and leeks!) and I loved being able to pull from her recipes to prepare food for my family."

Aleta Schellenberg

"We enjoyed the great taste of fresh produce. We used the recipes about half of the time and this gave us a new experience of cooking and creating a new meal together.  The recipes were extremely helpful and a welcome touch so that we used our vegetables and did not have food go to waste."

Jenn Selkirk

"This was our first year and we felt it was well worth it, we bought almost no veggies in the store all summer long, ate only tasty organic stuff and got a few different crops to cook with was a fun challenge."

Jack Nolan

"Our farm share was shared between 3 family members living in 3 locations. We cannot often share meals but sharing the veggies and the dishes we made each week gave us the essence of family meals. Freshness, from good farming practices, made even snacking on raw carrots so delicious that it was something to talk about with each other!"

Susan Mills

Here are all of the Standard Share boxes for the 2018 season.  Our regular season lasts for 15 weeks.  If you are curious about the specific varieties of crops we are planning to grow, visit our Products page.  We revise our crop selection at the beginning of each season and share this openly.

The Common Ground membership helps groups of people access sustainably grown local food.  By combining the purchasing power of your friends, neighbours, and/or workmates, you can keep the fresh snacks and salad greens rolling your way all summer long!  Crop selection will be focussed on items that are the simplest for fresh eating, so the food will always be easy to enjoy whether you are preparing meals at home or snacking on the go.

This membership includes:

  • 20 consecutive weeks of fresh produce from early June to late October.

  • Bulk deliveries valued at $15 per person, containing 2 or 3 farmer selected products for each member.

  • A crop selection focussed on salad greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and snap peas with guest appearances from other crops like potatoes, onions, beets, garlic, radishes, and squash for a little variety.

Deliveries for Common Ground members will be made on Fridays during the day.  We can deliver to groups in Riversdale, Nutana, or the Central Business District.  Groups outside of this delivery area may arrange to pick up their produce at the farm in Riversdale at noon on Fridays.

Groups must include at least 8 members to qualify.

We only have a couple of Common Ground memberships available so once your group is organized, contact us as soon as possible to secure your spot.  Download the documents below to get started.
